LUCAS SCHLEWEIS
Bass / Vocals

40 years of stage experience
Lucas Schleweis has been writing and performing his own music since the late 1980s – mostly as a bassist in bands with original material, never as a cover band. Via Czaika Ranch (rock ’n’ roll with a 1970s feel), ALIVE (guitar pop with Christian lyrics) and Ra Patera (hard German-language guitar rock), his journey has led him, since 2018, to the solo project Blackthorn Blossom, under which he produces the songs, instrumentation, lyrics and vocals entirely by himself – often with the support of musical companions.
100+ songs in own discography
His discography has now grown to over 100 songs – 40 years of musical development, evident across a broad stylistic spectrum: from driving, at times sombre guitar rock (“Ruins”, “Delirium”) to instrumental forays into funk and surf (“Surfin’ in Stereo”, “Foreign Shores”), as well as socially critical statements (“Tech Elite Creep”) and spiritual, contemplative tracks (“Am Baum der Erkenntnis”, “On Solid Ground”). The album also features musical adaptations of literary works – such as a series of Hermann Hesse poems set to new music.
Studio, stage, and choir
Compositionally, Blackthorn Blossom moves between catchy rock riffs and atmospheric, often slightly melancholic moods, whilst the lyrics frequently offer a glimmer of hope amidst the sombre backdrop. Technically, this is underpinned by decades of experience as a bassist and songwriter, complemented by his own home studio expertise in recording, multitrack mixing and mastering – as well as a constant curiosity about new equipment and production techniques. Besides Blackthorn Blossom, Lucas is active in Gospel Choir GetUp and other side projects.
